Great White Shark Jumps 15 Feet Through The Air In South Africa

Sharks were considered as both fearful and amazing animals, ever since Jaws by Steven Spielberg came out. However, they just became even more ridiculously amazing when one great white `1345shark was recorded jumping 15 feet above the water, getting lots of refreshing air.

Recently, a great white shark was captured emerging from the ocean and flying itself up the air. This extraordinary leap carried the shark to an unbelievable height of 15 feet, which is 4.57 metres, to be precise. According to Sharks World, it’s common for sharks to jump 8-10 feet into the air, but seeing one jump 5 feet above this mark is phenomenal.

As part of Discovery channels Shark Week, Chris Fallows, an expert on great white sharks, traveled to Seal Island in False Bay, South Africa. The footage of the shark was filmed for a program called ‘Air Jaws: Ultimate Breach’, where experts compete to capture the best pics of sharks breaching out of the water. Fallows, fortunately, stumbled upon this shark that soared into a record-breaking height, and is going viral at the present.

This striking phenomena of a great white shark launching itself out of the water is known as ‘breaching’. They do this to catch preys that are moving fast, during hunting. Sharks can also swim with a speed close to 40 mph when swimming nearby the ocean surface. However, since this action consumes a huge portion of a shark’s energy, they don’t do this often.

Jeff Kurr, the director of Air Jaws said about the incident: “More than any other Air Jaws we’ve done, this one has a really strong conservation message: We have to do something to protect these great white sharks because they are on the brink of annihilation”, emphasizing on the importance of protecting ocean beings.
