A fox in Zehlendorf, Berlin, has been unmasked as the thief who stole more than 100 shoes from residents. The shoes that were stolen mainly included flip flops and Crocs.
The fox had managed to outrun the residents for weeks and it was Felix Hackenbruch, a resident at Zehlendorf that caught the culprit. The Daily Tagesspiegel reported that the culprit was caught red-pawed while it was “carrying two blue flip flops in its mouth.”
The tweet translates to: “Fox, you have stolen that shoe. In #Zehlendorf more than 100 shoes have been stolen by a fox. Photo taken by Christian Meyer.”
One or two sandals, running shoes, slippers or flip flops at a time have been disappearing from gardens and yards at night. It was initially suspected that a two-legged man would be the culprit, so this discovery left the residents utterly jaw-dropped. The alleged fox had moved about stealthily in search of shoes – instead of prey – in the Zehlendorf neighborhood to the southwest of Berlin, and it was found that its collection of shoes was stocked neatly when the hiding place was swooped.
Few of the residents reunited with their shoes that have been absent for a long time, but the missing pair of running shoes of the man who caught the culprit was not among the hoard of shoes. The count of shoes that was found was over one hundred.
This wasn’t the first time a fox was caught stealing shoes. A similar incident has been reported from a small town named Foehren in Germany.
This trove of footwear was discovered by a forest worker near the fox’s den. A local police spokesman said: “There were everything from ladies’ shoes to trainers. We’ve found 110 to 120 so far.” This vixen has had a particular reason for the sneaky act, which was to find something for her cubs to play with, as the locals say.
